Hi! I am Imi. I work with highly intense, sensitive, and gifted humans.
Hi! I am Imi. I work with highly intense, curious, existentially aware humans.
I started in mental health as a suicide counselor in 2009. As time progressed, I found myself drawn to the spiritual, philosophical, and creative aspects of well-being. I shifted away from conventional psychotherapy, seeking a broader approach that goes beyond the medical paradigm, which often pathologizes individuals rather than understanding their unique needs. I have found more solace in ancient wisdom, particularly drawing inspiration from Stoicism, Buddhism, and Daoism.
I hold a Master's in Mental Health from the University of Queensland's School of Medicine, Australia. Seeking to incorporate a spiritual dimension into my practice, I pursued a Master's in Buddhist Studies, with my dissertation exploring the intersection between the ancient Stoic Marcus Aurelius's work and Buddhist scriptures. While I do not identify as a "Buddhist" and do not advocate for any specific religion, I enjoy learning from diverse world philosophies and finding wisdom in them. Later, I wished to bridge what I learned with real-life sociological and systemic issues, so I studied Global Cultures at King's College London to deepen my understanding of how identity, belonging, and meaning are shaped across different contexts, including the complexities of intersectionality, LGBTQ+ experiences, migration, and diaspora.
Having held roles in various countries, including Mental Health Supervisor at Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders and Clinical Practitioner in an NHS Community Mental Health Team, I have seen firsthand how neurodivergent individuals are often misunderstood by the systems meant to help them.
My current passion is coaching highly intense and gifted adults, fueled by the realization that the needs of gifted grown-ups are often overlooked in mainstream discussions. While resources for gifted children are abundant, there is a noticeable silence around the distinct challenges faced by gifted adults, including issues like shame, fear of being targeted, and the childhood trauma of being parentified.
I tend to be rather direct. While I understand this may not be for everyone, I believe clarity, even when uncomfortable, is what actually helps. Underneath all the techniques and theories, it is the genuine relationship between us and the insights we find together that will create the most lasting changes.
If you are interested in my personal journey and what got me here, I wrote about some of my personal histories and struggles. I also spoke about my childhood experience and journey in this conversation with the brilliant Adam Williams from Humanitou.
